As a major co-production between Tokyo Metoropolitan Theatre (TMet) and SIFA 2016, this work presented NODA Hideki’s “Richard Sandaime” based on William Shakespeare’s Richard Ⅲ for the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. It was directed by Ong Keng Sen, Festival director of SIFA, and performed by actors form Japan, Singapore and Indonesia to make the most of the opportunity to contemplate international relations through the Shakespearean play within Asian countries. Kabuki, Kyogen and Takarazuka actors of Japan and traditional shadow play artist of Indonesia, together with contemporary actors of Japan, Indonesia and Singapore blend traditional and contemporary theatre for a new international co-production from Asia.
