[Project Outline at the time of application] This is an unprecedented, pioneering regional project to plan and organize a travelling performance festival that presents a well-curated programme of contemporary Asian works specifically in ‘Asian cities with artistic edges’. The programme introduces key Asian artists who are at different stages of their artistic careers by taking into consideration their bodies of work vis-a-vis the local/global context(s) that help to shape them. This project offers a critical response to the curation of international circuit of festivals/venues within certain Western frames, particularly local Asian contexts and comparisons tend to be sidelined if not missing entirely. This Jejak-Tabi Exchange - Wandering Asian Contemporary Performance precisely sets out to fill this void. The project will feature not only performances, but also showcases, panel discussions, workshops, talks and lectures. This project hopes to stimulate various networking, collaborative and cooperative opportunities among Asian performing arts practitioners and producers, and especially among arts organizations and companies that this project proposes to work with.
