Self-Organized Initiatives and Collective Practicies in Japanese Contemporary Art Community

“Self-Organized Initiatives and Collective Practices in Japanese Contemporary Art Community” revolves around research on self-organized arts and cultural initiatives and collective practices in all geographical localities of Japan. The research focuses on initiatives that engage in educational, intellectual, and community programs, including artist collectives, alternative art spaces, art activist communities, and art projects. Additionally, the research concentrates on recent and contemporaneous active programs, particularly those of the past few decades, in order to grasp a new framework and direction of these recent initiatives in questioning and countering the system in the new century; and also, the research attempts to consider the recent initiatives in a bigger picture of global-phenomenon 'self-organization' in various sectors both in contemporary arts and culture and in a sociopolitical context.
