Hanoi New Music Festival has been an indispensable part of the contemporary experimental music scene in Hanoi since 2009. Southeast Asia has been regarded as silent in the map of contemporary and experimental music in the world? But is this so?
This third edition of the festival, with the theme "Make A Silence", examines and puts the spotlight on over 40 artists, musicians, researchers and curators from all across Southeast Asia, who are devoted to developing the contemporary and experimental music within the region. The festival takes place in various venues in Hanoi in three different formats: Symposium Program, Concert/Performance Program and Night Club Experimental.
With a more sustained and collaborative community in mind, Hanoi New Music Festival 2018 attempts to build the bridge between the practitioners and the researchers, the critics and the art organizers and developers, the academic and the non-academic, the traditional and the experimental and last but not least, the larger audience and the artist.

From the Organizer

Hanoi New Music Festival 2018 has become one of the biggest events until now for contemporary and experimental music of Southeast Asia, putting the spotlight on over 40 artists, musicians, researchers and curators from all across Southeast Asia and Japan. The festival has really become a home, a forum for both the academic and non-academic music professionals from Southeast Asia and Japan through two strands of the festival—Symposium and Showcase, which took place consecutively for 6 days last December in Hanoi.
Great thanks to the support and observation of our Japanese colleagues and participants, who share with us our vision of connecting and developing the network of contemporary and experimental music of Asia.
