The 24-episode drama series Khuc Hat Mat Troi (English title: Midnight Sun), which began airing in November, 2015 on VTV3, received technical assistance from the Japanese production side, particularly in regards to voice recording and on-location shooting. Japanese actress Nao Matsushita was also sent to attend a press conference in Hanoi, widely communicating cooperation between the two countries to a public audience in an easily-understood way. Assistance from the Japanese production side included suggesting ways to avoid risk during shooting, editing, and sound production, troubleshooting the countless difficulties that can arise during shooting, and producing instruction manuals. The Vietnamese team was able to fruitfully interact and exchange ideas not just with the Japanese cast and staff, but with a variety of local staff members – a very meaningful exchange of technical knowhow and culture alike.

From the Organizer
We’ve continued interacting with the Vietnam production staff afterwards, and have even invited each other over for drinks at home. At work, they continue to use the templates and manuals we created, and have even gone as far as to update them to meet their needs – a clear reflection of their passion. Future content production in Asia will likely continue to transition from terrestrial broadcast to internet streaming. We hope to continue working to exchange research and development ideas across countries to find new means of creating and enjoying content going forward. Due to the diversity of subsidies on offer (along with timeframe, methods, and results), the Grant that the Japan Foundation has approved made effective efforts from the perspective of true international exchange possible. We have high hopes for future exchange efforts in a variety of genres and areas.
