森林の適正な資源循環を果たし、都市の生態環境を促進するとともに、温室効果ガスの削減に大きな役割を果たす都市や建築の木質化は、先進国では大きな政策課題となっている。本協会は、その問題を東南アジア諸国と共有すべく、2017年度より「Green Initiative Week」(木質フォーラム)と題した活動を行ってきた。当該国の専門家、自治体、NPO等と連携し、国際会議やワークショップ、大学への支援、展覧会等を通して、問題の共有と広範なネットワークの形成を目標とする。
2017年度は森林大国インドネシアのジャカルタとバンドン、2018年度は林業が盛んな静岡県浜松、そして3回目となる2019 年度は、フィリピンのセブ島にて本事業を実施した。地元サン・カルロス大学がホストとなり、日本・東南アジア諸国、欧州より約40名の発表者が集い、2日間の国際シンポジウム、建築家会議等を行った。「Ridge to Reef」をテーマに掲げ、山間部と海浜を結んだ総合的な環境プログラムについて議論を行うとともに、この地特有のマングローブ林の保全活用をめぐってワークショップを実施した。

From the Organizer

本プログラムは、都市計画・木質化を主とした建築デザイン・環境計画、市民活動をめぐる日本および東南アジア諸国の今後の展望を切り拓くことを目的に、3年にわたり実施された。
東南アジアでは比較的無視されてきたこのテーマを敢えて掲げ、場所を変え時間をかけながら議論を交わすことで、問題意識を共有し相互理解を図ることができた。また、現地の視察や人的交流を通し、参加者の関係を充分に構築することができ、将来的に長期に渡る課題解決の足がかりとなった。
今後も日本と東南アジア諸国が一体となり、これらのテーマを軸に「建築・環境」がより良い社会を築く一助となるよう、各国参加者の更なる活躍に期待したい。
