The Tokyo TV Forum held the Tokyo Docs 2015 for four days from October 25-28. On the first day, with the theme of “Asia Day,” panel discussions and project consideration meetings were held by Japanese and Asian creators. Discussion was held by the creators of the international collaborative project “Colors of Asia 2015,” for which preparations began from the 2014 Tokyo Docs, with the project broadcasted on NHK BS1 in 2015. In addition, four projects were selected as Japan/Asia joint projects which aim to be completed in 2016. From the second day on, with the decision makers invited from Europe, the United States, and Asia, we conducted pitch sessions with 19 project proposers from Japan and 5 from Asia, and held workshops with the international guests as lecturers. There were nearly 200 individual meetings held in 3 days, and many projects advanced towards international coproduction. After Tokyo Docs was held, producers from ASEAN counties and Japan were dispatched to major international documentary festivals.

From the Organizer

When comparing the number of participants, we realized that overseas promotion and use of SNS had gradually expanded the spread of information both in Japan and overseas. There were 1305 participants to Tokyo Docs 2015. In particular, at Asia Day, the use of the grant money resulted in major results such as promotion of collaborations with producers from ASEAN counties and other Asian nations, overseas development using the benefits of international collaboration, and strengthening of an environment to create diverse content. Additionally, among the 35 projects suggested during the period, 24 began negotiation for international coproduction. Meanwhile, opinions seeking to optimize the projects were received from decision makers, providing subjects with which to consider the planning of project optimization well in advance of the next event.
